Recently B2K collaborated with a renowned bakery in Gauteng, adding considerable value to the bakery’s operations which resulted in increased productivity and lower costs.

The challenge

Every second of unplanned downtime can lead to significant financial loss and operational headaches in an industry where time is money. 

The key objectives for our recent collaboration with this large bakery were clear-cut:

• Improve the efficiency of bakery operations

• Minimise equipment downtime

• Ensure uninterrupted production

The bakery’s challenges revolved around maintaining a smooth supply chain operation and pre-empting mechanical failures that could disrupt its busy manufacturing schedule.

Plant survey

Accuracy is not just essential in baking but in plant maintenance as well. B2K conducted extensive plant surveys, identifying critical components within the facility. This foresight allowed for a nuanced understanding of the equipment and swift responses to any signs of wear before they could escalate into more significant issues.

Consignment stock 

Our next order of business was establishing a consignment stock of critical components directly on site. This strategic move injected newfound efficiency into the bakery’s supply chain. 

Instead of waiting for parts and components during breakdowns, they now had immediate access to necessary replacements, effectively minimising downtimes and ensuring a production line that never sleeps.

A sustainable spin 

Our bearing remanufacturing programme provided an additional value-add. Refurbishing and reconditioning bearings extended their life, reduced waste and maintenance costs. 

It was a move that showcased B2K’s ability to innovate and highlighted our dedication to sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

Extending knowledge 

Furthering our commitment, we introduced the bakery’s team to the B2K Training Academy. Empowering them with skills and knowledge, we ensured that the bakery’s staff were equipped with the right tools and the expertise to use them most effectively.

Scraper Chain Installation

We recently supplied a scraper chain used on the silo in the bakery’s mill.

During our visit to the bakery, the maintenance team lead us to a chain that required replacement and none of their suppliers were able to identify and quote on. Our technical product manager spent considerable time and effort with the customer and managed to identify the custom chain. After sending in a proposal, the order was received for 50 meters.

The chain has recently been installed on one of their lines. We plan to access the performance of the chain after one month of running and engage with the bakery on the chain for the remaining lines.

This is just one example of the technical support and collaboration B2K has with our customers. Our next objective at the bakery is to introduce them to our Forged Link Chain for the intake lines.
